Book Spotlight: Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey

Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey

I can’t be held responsible. Things that happen there are supposed to stay there, right? Right? Yeeeah. Not so much.

Andie’s just days away from tying the knot, but there’s just ooooone little glitch. Apparently, she’s already married. Or someone with her name is married to a guy out in Oregon of all places, and the courthouse won’t issue her a marriage license until it’s all cleared up. Tripping her way through cow pies and country songs to meet up with a man who gets around places on horseback is her very last idea of how to have a good time, but if she’s going to get married, make partner at the firm, and have two point five kids before she’s thirty-five, she needs to get to the bottom of this snafu and fix it quick … before her fiance finds out and everything she’s been working toward goes up in flames.

Overall Rating: 5/5 — Once you fall in love with a hot cowboy, you’ll never go want for more.

With that realisation came the understanding that sometimes you can’t appreciate the true beauty of a thing until you’ve experienced it for yourself; no amount of words or pictures will do the trick. And no amount of planning could make it happen. Sometimes, we just have to go where the wind takes us and see where we end up.

NOW CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE AND HOW CAN I GET MY HANDS ON MY OWN HOT COWBOY??! I’ve fallen in love with military guys, bikers, rockers, racers, athletes, businessmen, and even paranormal male characters but this is the very first time that a cowboy stole my heart as well.

What happens in Vegas, sometimes doesn’t just stay in Vegas…

What if what you thought was the biggest, most careless and reckless mistake of your life turned to be the best thing that ever happened to you?

That’s exactly what happened to Andie Marks, 25-year-old lawyer extraordinaire who has her life all planned down to the small details. During a fateful and drunken night in Vegas, she meets the hottest cowboy in Oregon, Gavin “Mack” Mackenzie, and manages to throw away her “lifeplan” but of course she manages to forget it the very next morning. Fast forward two years after and she finds herself back on schedule in her “lifeplan”, set to marry a douchebag lawyer who all her friends despise and who does not really make her happy. Problem is, she then discovers that she’s still married to this certain blue-eyed cowboy hunk.

Instead of rambling mindlessly about how much I loved this one, I’m just going to enumerate my TWO reasons to make it easier for you to understand:

Funny, witty, awkward, random dialogue — If you loved Seduction & Snacks, which I consider as one of the funniest novels ever, then you’ll certainly love this one as well. Even though Andie can be quite an uptight bitch, deep down she’s still a funny and a wee bit awkward-at-times sweetheart who tends to speak before thinking. Her best friends Candice and Kelly were also a hoot and of course there’s Mack who has that certain endearing cockiness to him as well. I think the witty and funny train of thought and dialogues did help in preventing this story from becoming too overly dramatic and angsty.

…and the one and only other reason that should matter…

GAVIN “MACK” MACKENZIE a.k.a Sexy cowboy man of Baker City, Oregon — I can’t even begin to describe or give justice to this guy’s amazingness. I swear he just jumped straight to my top 5 book boyfriends of all time. He’s jaw-dropping sexy, incredibly handsome, a complete gentleman, a total alpha male in bed, super dedicated and hard-working, loyal, very patient, and heart-meltingly sweet and swoony. There were many times that I just wanted to strangle and shake the living daylights out of Andie because of her stubbornness and the way she hurts Mack on and on again, but somehow, he’s just amazing that he still remains steadfast with what he feels for her through and through. Oh and did I mention that this guy’s incredibly sexy and smoking hot?? I think I drooled at some point with all the hotness oozing out of him and the scenes that really set my Kindle on faayyeerrr. I swear those scenes can easily rival some of the hottest scenes you’ve ever read… trust me on this because I’ve read a lot already. How Andie still thought of her stupid “lifeplan” when this guy was right in front of her was beyond me. This guy was willing to do anything and everything to be with the girl he fell for on that fateful night in Vegas and boy did he fight for her till she finally gave in.

As a sidenote, probably the two things that I kind of did not like were Andie’s extreme stubbornness and stupidity as well as the abrupt ending. I just hated that Andie still chose to leave Mack even after breaking it off with Bradley and knowing that all that’s waiting for her back in the city is a miserable life. Even though I’m beyond the stars happy with the epilogue, I think there were some things that were left unexplored. I really, REALLY wanted to see more into Mack and Andie’s future as well as more of his family, especially Ian, and how Andie found the real her with the help of Mack. But all in all, this is a highly recommended read! This was the perfect break for me from all the heavily dramatic novels I’ve been reading recently. I really want more though! 🙂
