When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?
Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.
Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.
Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.
Overall Rating: 5/5 — Definite must-read for those looking for heart-stopping action, mystery, and some romance as well!
I honestly didn’t expect to love this book that much! I thought this was just going to be some love story set in a sci-fi setting and that the love story would of course be at the forefront of everything. But I was clearly mistaken.
This book is very addicting and engaging and I was actually able to finish reading this book in about 4-5 hours because I wasn’t able to put it down! In addition, I actually found myself laughing, saying “Oh shit!” out loud, and taking a few minutes to regain my composure because of all the twists, turns, and action in this story.
The romance actually took a backseat in this one, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because I loved the build-up and it wouldn’t be believable enough if the boy and girl fall immediately into a loving relationship amidst the chaos. And I completely adore all the characters! I mean come on, 4 witty and extremely attractive boys and a strong heroine—what more can you ask for? But what I love most about this story is the fact that it’s unpredictable, which is a hard thing to find in a lot of young adult/new adult novels nowadays. So yes, I highly recommend this book for all the sci-fi and mystery (infused with some romance) junkies!
