I have to admit that this post is completely because of my undeniable happiness for the Dan-Blair pairing in Gossip Girl. If anything, this is probably the first ACTUAL love story and not just a love-kiss-sex story.
In a perfect world, you meet that one person who will love you more than anything and anyone else he/she had ever loved in his/her life and he/she will know you better than you know yourself and will accept you completely (cue Bruno Mars) just the way you are. And in Disney world, you both shall live happily ever after all the witches and demons have been killed and removed out of the picture. In the real world, you meet that one person who will love you more than anything and anyone else he/she had ever loved in his/her life and he/she will know you better than you know yourself and will accept you completely (cue Bruno Mars) just the way you are—and he/she will eventually leave you citing irreconcilable differences. Awesome.
I’m one of those optimistic pessimist (if there’s such a trait). I’m cynical and hopeful at the same time. Let’s just say I’ve had not-so-Disney-like experiences with love and relationships which brought about a certain level of reasonable cynicism in me. But then again, there’s much to explore and live for and be thankful for in this world which makes me very hopeful of whatever the future has in store for me… and my love life.
Back to Dan-Blair pairing… what I love about them (and the writers–thank you!) is how relatable their relationship is in real life. Not even kidding. Doesn’t the theme of today’s generation revolve around friends—bestfriends—no-labels-but-yes-we’re-in-a-relationship? And although that’s basically a very messed up situation, I actually find it beautiful. There’s this certain beauty in falling inlove and the process of getting there, sometimes even without the person realizing he/she has already fallen. There’s no need for the much-featured excess and unnecessary drama (which made Gossip Girl a hit series), which almost everyone experience. People should just simply fall in love and be in love. And I don’t know with the rest of the girls out there, but for me this falls under one of the best random date ideas EVER:
At the end of the day, it’s the little things that matter and what you remember 🙂 And because instead of being touched and moved by grandiose efforts, I actually find it funny sooo yes I could do without those. AND if somewhere along the way you get hurt, be thankful for the experience and have no regrets. Falling in love is a very beautiful thing to happen to a person and a very wonderful blessing and opportunity to have… I should know, I’ve been there—sofa, movies from laptop, falling asleep, random sweetness—and although it’s gone now, I have nothing but a smile on my face each and every time I remember. 🙂
Maybe it’s better sometimes to just get what you need. Note to self: have faith.
